Google Analytics 4

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is one of the most popular website tracking tools on the Internet. This free software is available at analytics.google.com. Google Analytics gives you insights into your website’s visitors.

Have you ever asked any of these questions about the people who visit your website?

  • Where do they come from?
  • What countries and cities?
  • What browser are they using?
  • Are they on mobile, tablet or desktop?
  • How long do they stay on my site?
  • What pages do they visit?

These questions and many more can be answered through the free reporting on your Google Analytics account!

What is their new product, Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4 is described by Google as the “next generation of Analytics.” It collects “event-based data from both websites and apps.” This new product is designed for the future of measurement:

  • Collects both website and app data to better understand the customer journey
  • Uses event-based data instead of session-based
  • Includes privacy controls such as cookieless measurement, and behavioral and conversion modeling
  • Predictive capabilities offer guidance without complex models
  • Direct integrations to media platforms help drive actions on your website or app

Why do I need to migrate?

Google is actually forcing this upgrade. This is not optional. The Google support article says, “On July 1, 2023, standard Universal Analytics properties will no longer process data. You’ll be able to see your Universal Analytics reports for a period of time after July 1, 2023. However, new data will only flow into Google Analytics 4 properties.”

Therefore, it’s mandatory to perform this easy, free upgrade.

How can I get help upgrading to Google Analytics 4?

Leighton Smith at Pioneer Media is ready to help! New clients are automatically placed on Google Analytics 4, but businesses that have been collecting analytics data for several years may be using the former “Universal Analytics” product (the predecessor to GA4). If this describes you, let’s chat so we can upgrade you to the new Google Analytics 4 before Google sunsets the former analytics product. The upgrade process is quick, easy and free, and several Pioneer Media clients have already migrated to GA4.
