Getting Started Guide

What do we need to get started? What should you gather? How does the web design process work? Here are the 4 steps.

1What we need to get started

Are you getting a new website?

  1. Down payment. A 50% down payment is required to get started; you may also pay in full. Checks, credit cards and PayPal are accepted.
  2. Signed agreement. Review, sign and return our simple 1-page agreement.
  3. Domain ideas. What .com domain name would you like? Come up with a few ideas (we will too), and we’ll check their availability. Once you choose a domain name, plan to keep it. We’ll register it for you.

Is your website being redesigned?

  1. Down payment. A 50% down payment is required to get started; you may also pay in full. Checks, credit cards and PayPal are accepted.
  2. Signed agreement. Review, sign and return our simple 1-page agreement.
  3. Domain login. We need access to your domain name so we can work with it. If you’d like, we can transfer it to us for safekeeping. Common registrars include GoDaddy, Namecheap and Network Solutions.
  4. Hosting or WordPress login. We need the login to your current website to redesign and update it. Common hosts include GoDaddy, HostGator and Bluehost.

2Design ideas and content

Logo

Send us your logo as an EPS, PDF, PNG or high-resolution JPG. Don’t have a logo? No worries, our specialists can design a custom, professional logo for you.

Color scheme

What colors would you like on your website? The colors in your logo are an excellent place to start. Choose colors carefully to convey the feeling and mood you want: eco-friendly, bold and exciting, or calm and relaxing?

Photos

Send us your best high-resolution photos. The bigger, the better. Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, email or text all work.

Design

Are there websites you particularly like, in your industry or not? That’s very helpful! Give us an idea of what you’d like to see on your website.

Pages

What pages do you want? Ideas: Home, About Us, Services, Products, Testimonials, Photo Gallery and Contact. You can have whatever pages you want. It’s your website!

Content

Most importantly, send us the content for each page: a few paragraphs and photos telling your company’s story for the About page, your current contact details for the Contact page, and photos for the Gallery.

3We design your website mockup

  • Once you’ve sent everything we need, we start building your website!
  • Yes, you can follow our progress. We’ll give you a private link to view the work in progress.
  • It typically takes us 1–2 weeks to prepare a mockup. Yes, we’re quick!
  • When the mockup is ready, we’ll let you know and send you the link.
  • Most people love what they see at first (we are professional designers, after all), but remember it’s a mockup, not a finished product. If you don’t like something, that’s totally fine! Request any changes you want: colors, layout, wording, anything. Make a list, and we’ll keep working on the site.
  • We recommend reviewing the mockup on a desktop computer first. That’s how we design it initially, so on a phone you may see some unfinished layouts.
  • Many clients find it easiest to list their changes in an email or a Word document, organized by page.
  • Don’t be afraid to speak up. You won’t hurt our feelings. This is your website, and you should be proud of the finished product.
  • After a few rounds of revisions, the site is ready to finalize and launch. On to step 4!

4Final edits and launch!

  • After a few rounds of revisions, the website should be just how you like it.
  • To launch it, we:
    • Make it mobile-friendly by optimizing it for tablets and smartphones
    • Review every page, scrutinizing every element of the design and content
    • Publish the website on your chosen domain name
    • Harden the website against hackers with several security strategies
    • Submit the site to search engines, particularly Google
    • Install analytics tracking
    • Install uptime monitoring
    • Configure regular website backups
  • Many of these steps happen behind the scenes, so you won’t see them on the website itself.
  • If you haven’t already paid in full, the final 50% balance is due at launch.
  • If your Website Care Service isn’t already being billed, billing starts on the 1st of the following month. Let us know if you’d like to pay by credit card, and we’ll send you a secure way to set that up.
  • We’ll kindly ask for an honest review of your experience with Pioneer Media, usually on our Google listing, though we also welcome reviews on Facebook or LinkedIn.
  • We may include your website in our digital portfolio.
