Jim McNutt Designs

Jim McNutt Designs is the custom woodworking studio of Jim McNutt, who opened the Woodstream Hardwoods lumberyard at 3636 Division St NW in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1975. He builds live-edge tables, bar tops, mantels, accent walls and wood art, and is selling the remaining Woodstream Hardwoods inventory.

The challenge

Jim needed an attractive website that would appeal to the woodworking market, from homeowners looking for a live-edge table or mantel to builders, designers and other woodworkers shopping for slabs and lumber, and that would bring in more business from Google and other search engines. The site had to look as good as his work, load quickly on phones and be easy for search engines to read.

What we built

• A client since 2016. We first built and maintained WoodstreamHardwoods.com for Jim’s Knoxville lumberyard. Today we host and care for JimMcNuttDesigns.com as well. Both companies are his.
• A high-performance static website. The site is rebuilt as fast static pages with no plugins or database to slow it down or keep updated, the same approach we used to rebuild our own website.
• A design that looks like the shop. A dark wood-grain look with gold lumber-marking details, a tape-measure banner and photos of Jim’s slabs and workshop.
• A page for every kind of wood. Separate pages for wood slabs, mantels and reclaimed woods, plus a portfolio gallery, an About page and a contact page.
• The liquidation sale, front and center. A sale banner, a pop-up and a lumberyard section tell visitors that everything left at Woodstream Hardwoods is for sale, with the address, phone number and appointment details.
• Written for search and AI. A “The Short Answer” summary on the homepage describes the business in plain language for search engines and AI assistants.
• Ongoing care through our Website Care Service: hosting, SSL security, updates and backups.

Responsive on laptop and mobile

The layout adapts to the screen: a full navigation bar on a laptop, and a menu button with larger, easy-to-tap buttons on a phone, so customers can call Jim or book a consultation from the lumberyard. See the laptop and mobile views below.
